Boosting Brain Function and Coherence with Transcendental Meditation

Fatigue, stress, poor diet, and substance abuse can significantly impair brain function. In particular, the prefrontal cortex—often referred to as the "CEO" of the brain, responsible for judgement, planning, and foresight—can be bypassed, allowing more primitive areas of the brain to take control. As a result, we become more reactionary, more emotional, and less able to foresee the consequences of our actions.

Transcendental Meditation helps restore order to the brain. During meditation, the brain's front and back regions become more synchronised, strengthening the connections between them. This helps bring the prefrontal cortex back “online,” enabling us to become more proactive, more insightful, and better able to see the big picture.

With regular practice of TM, the entire brain becomes more coherent, lively, and “tuned up.” As a result, we become more responsive, vibrant, and alert. Studies have shown that TM cultivates the degree of brain coherence commonly seen in top-level managers and high-performance athletes, enhancing mental clarity and performance.

The brain wave coherence associated with Transcendental Meditation is linked to a wide range of positive changes, including improvements in creativity, intelligence, concentration, learning ability, problem-solving, and moral reasoning. This increased coherence unlocks more of the brain's latent potential, contributing to personal growth and cognitive enhancement. Over time, this leads to the development of a more integrated, highly functional brain—a state of Enlightenment.

We need a healthy, integrated brain that can evaluate where we are, decide where we want to be, and then decide on the steps to get there.
